注：歌詞の背景、状況説明は私の勝手な個人的日本語解釈で進めています。講師が日本語が分からないためにどうしても説明が多分に必要だからです。
#33 今日は雨
今回のお題は「今日は雨」。
A先生にまたお願いします。
“Turn right off the national road and head out to that cape”…
国道を右に折れ、あの岬まで出かけよう
He broke up with her a few months ago.
Today he is driving alone to a certain cape. It is a place where he had a date with her before.
彼は、数か月前に彼女と別れました。
今日は独りでとある岬に車で向かっています。そこは以前に彼女とデートした場所です。
Here,” national road”… I think that you are meaning “highway” or “interstate” or something like that. So you’re saying this is a major road? I really like “Highway”, like in English, that’s the word that describes what you’re talking about.
ここで「national road」と書いてあるけど、「highway」じゃないかしら。
あー（辞書）、本当だ。国道、highwayが良さそうですね。
“On a rainy day like today,
go alone to the sea where there is not a soul to be seen”…OK,OK.
「雨が降る今日みたいな日は、
1人で人影もない海まで行こう」…
うん、いいね。
“A thought occurred to me that maybe I could meet as we were that day
It is raining today”…
「ふと思うんだ、あの日のままの僕らに出逢えるんじゃないかと
今日は雨が降っている」…
He used to come to this place with her on rainy days.
He came to this place again today, thinking that he could relive their memories of those days.
彼は雨の日には彼女とこの場所によく来ていました。
その頃の二人の想い出にひたれると思い、今日またこの場所に彼はやってきました。
if I add the word “myself”, “I could meet myself as we were that day.”
That allows the storyteller to be emotional. Like he’s physically at the place and he’s re-watching the memories in each moment. He’s meeting his past self in his memory.
Suggest by adding “myself” and that’s basically what that means.
ここに”myself/自分 “という言葉を付け加てみましょう「ふとあの日の僕たちだった頃の自分に出会うことができる気がして」。
そうすると、語り手は感情的になれるんです。彼はその場所に物理的にいて、それぞれの瞬間に思い出を見直しているような。彼は記憶の中で過去の自分に会っている感じになります。
小技が高度すぎる( ﾟдﾟ)
“Under the light of the lighthouse on the outskirts of the cape, we swore our love to each other”…
「岬の外れにある灯台の明かりの下、僕たちは愛の言葉を誓い合った」…
There is a lighthouse on the outskirts of the cape, under which they had sat and talked about their love.
岬の外れに灯台があり、その下で彼らは座って愛の言葉を語り合っていました。
“Do you still remember that word?”…
「君は覚えているかい、その言葉を？」…
“That” works? The only time that you use ”that word” is if you are talking about a specific word, In that case “that” would be changed to “our.”
「その言葉」は特定の言葉に使うので、ここでは違和感があります。「僕たちの言葉」にしましょう。
“Hiding from the rain, we shared a long kiss
That was an anniversary for just the two of us”…
「雨に隠され、僕らは長いキスをした
あれは二人だけの記念日」…
They didn’t even have umbrellas, they didn’t care about getting drenched by the rain. Rather, they thought the rain would hide them.
傘もささないままでした。彼らは雨に打たれても気にしませんでした。むしろ、雨が自分たちを隠してくれると思っていました。

So they are just standing out in the rain, getting rained on and they’re hiding from the rest of the world. Then we are going to say “hiding in” the rain.
彼らは雨に打たれ、二人だけの世界になってる。ということはここは”from”ではなくて”in”ですね。「雨に隠れて」。
あ…そうですね…。凡ミス(´；ω；`)。
“You loved spending rainy days here
By myself, I look up at the sky blurred by the rain”…
「君は雨の日にこの場所で過ごすことが好きだったね
独り、滲んだ空を見上げる」…
Now he comes to this place alone and looks up at the sky.
The ” the sky blurred by the rain” is a metaphor for “a sky obscured by tears.”
今彼は独りでこの場所に来て、空を見上げています。
「雨でにじんだ空」は、「涙でよく見えない空」の隠喩です。
All right, make it that metaphor. I would change that to,
“By myself, I look up at the blurred sky through the rain.”
Then it becomes more of the metaphor of your like. Is he crying? Or is he just getting rained on? Where is the other way around? You’re saying the rain is the cause of the blurriness.
よし、その隠喩でいこうか。私ならこう変えます。” the sky blurred by the rain “ではなく “the blurred sky through the rain”にして。
「僕は今独り 雨に濡れたぼやけた空を見上げる」
そうすれば、あなたの言ってるような比喩になります。彼は泣いてるのか？それともただ雨に打たれているのか？空がにじんでいるのは雨でぼやけたんだものね。
なるほど…
“Lost from you, I am still wandering alone in the middle of my dream”…
「君とはぐれ、夢の途中で僕は今も独りでさまよい続けている」…
There was a dream that she and he pursued together, but he is now struggling alone.
彼女と二人で追いかけた夢がありました、しかし彼は今ひとりでもがいています。
Okay. “Still wandering alone” means that it was “his dream.” He had a dream when he was single. When they started dating, she joined him and was helping him. Now he is back to being alone and doing it by himself.
うん、ここに”still”がある場合は、それは彼独自の夢ということになります。彼にはもともと夢があり、彼女と付き合い出してから彼女は夢を追う彼を応援した。別れた今彼はまた独りで夢を追うことになった、というニュアンスです。
Or is it when they were dating? When they were dating, they came up with a dream together, but now that they are apart he has to do it by himself.

それともこの夢は、二人が付き合い出してから持ったものかしら？今は別れてしまって、彼は独りで追わなくてはいけなくなったのかな。その場合はstillは削除し、my dream はour dreamに変更しましょう。

この「夢」が表すものが、
目標の夢なのか、寝ているときに見る夢なのかも確定できないままですが…
“A thought occurred to me that maybe I could meet as you were that day”… Yeah, good.
「ここに来ればあの日のままの君に出逢える気がふとしたんだ」…うん、いいですね。
“It was a meaningless promise, though”…
「それはあてのない約束だけれども」…
They once swore their love to each other in this place. But now that promise is a thing of the past.
かつてはこの場所で愛を誓いあいました。しかし今となってはもう、その約束は過去のものになってしまいました。
“It is raining again today”…
今日も雨が降っている
What “again today” implies is that since his breakup with her, rain has been falling more frequently in his mind.
「今日も雨が降る」が示唆しているのは、彼女と別れて以降、彼の心の中に雨が頻繁に降っているということです。

シングル「She’s my Lady」のカップリングでした。

抜粋して要約します。
「MR.FRIENDS」アルバム特集があったときのインタビューが。
「ALWAYSⅡ」はメジャー系のバラードですけど、これはマイナー系のバラード」。
「She’s my Lady」のカップリングとしてリリースされたんですが、実はこのロング・バージョンの他にショート・バージョンがあって、シングルも本当はショート・バージョンで収録する予定だったんですよ。

それがね、意外とそうでもなかったんですよ。わりと―スーッと終わりました。苦労したのはカップリングのほうですね。ちょっとキーが低いから、けっこう試行錯誤しちゃったんですよ。

長いKISSを交わした
のところは、リヴァーブをかけて、イコライジングを変えてみた、と言ってはったと思います。（音楽用語で何かよく分からない…。ちなみに英語でリヴァベレイトreverberateは「残響する」という意味です）
効果としては、近くで感じるように、だそうです。
確かに初めて聴いたときドキっとしたなぁ(((*〃ﾟ艸ﾟ))
すぐ近くで山根さんのイケボが聴こえたような感じがしたから。
「She’s my Lady」の小ネタがまた…。
（「She’s my Lady」のビデオクリップ沖縄ロケ時）俺を待っていたのは「どこまでも広がる空」ではなく、空一面を包む灰色の霧と雨。天気予報では「明日もこの雨が続くでしょう…」としゃべっている。

カップリングの「今日は雨」はまたガラッと雰囲気が変わりますね。
これは過去のバラード作品とはちょっと雰囲気が変わりますね。一人で聴いててもいいなあと思えるような曲を作ってみたんです。まあ実際この曲を作ったときに雨は降ってなかったけど(笑)。

そうそう。
思い出すのは、1996年の「Run to Runツアー」の際にパフォームされたときのこと。
タイトルを「今日も雨」にしようかと考えたけど、そうすると「今日も雨、明日も雨…」という（暗い）雰囲気になる気がしたので、「今日は雨」としました。
とMCで言ってらっしゃいました。
懐かしいなぁ
関西の梅雨入りは来週くらいかな。
