子供たちが小さくても、色々勉強したい。大好きな山根さんの楽曲の歌詞がお題目なら継続できるかな、という超私的な魂胆。

注：歌詞の背景、状況説明は私の勝手な個人的日本語解釈で進めています。講師が日本語が分からないためにどうしても説明が多分に必要だからです。
#26 WALK WITH YOU
今回のお題は「WALK WITH YOU」
CLOUD 9とシチュエーション的に近いように思います。
CLOUD 9は、歌い手本人の経験から、我々を励ます歌でした。
今回の歌は歌い手の決意を表す歌詞。
言うなれば、この歌「WALK WITH YOU」があってこその「CLOUD 9」
という感じかもしれない、と個人的に感じています。
ライブでの鉄板ナンバーではありませんが、
非常に強いメッセージを含んだ曲です。
歌詞の展開は、ファンならよく分かる…というか
同じ世界観の楽曲が他にいくつかある（STAGE、OneMoment、TAKE A CHANCE、栄光の季節など）ので、それらをすでに吸収していると理解を深めることができます。
しかし他の方はその限りではありません。
うまく表現をmodifyしてもらうために、A先生にまずは世界観のベースを認知してもらう必要があるように思いました。
ストーリーの独自解釈をもとに説明します。

状況説明しますね。
When he was a uni student, he had friends who chased their dreams with him.
彼には学生時代、一緒に夢を追いかける仲間がいました。
After they started working, one by one the members quit, until finally, he was the only one left.
皆働きだしてから、1人、また1人とメンバーが抜けていき、とうとう彼だけになってしまいました。

He had started to give up on his dreams and concentrated on his work, but she told him “Chase your dreams again and believe in yourself. “
She was sure of his great talent.
そして彼は夢を諦めかけ仕事に専念しますが、彼女に「もう一度夢を追いかけて、自分を信じて。」と言われます。
彼女は彼の素晴らしい才能を確信していました。

At first, he thought it was the people around him who had caused him to give up his dreams. It’s because he no longer has anyone to chase my dreams with.

She had some reason for not being able to realize her goal. Family matters, financial matters…something like that.
社会に出てから彼女がポツリと言った言葉です。
彼女には目標を追えない何かがありました。家族のことか資金のことか分からないけど、物理的な何かがあり彼女は目標をあきらめ、「夢見るくらいは」とこう呟きました。

「僕は夢を捨てかけていた
周りの誰かのせいではなくて、何かを理由に」…
“because of something” is a metaphor for the “lack of courage in myself”.
Not because of his friends, but because of himself.
「何かを理由に」というのは「勇気の欠如」の隠喩です。
彼女とは違って、自分はひとりででもやればトライできる環境にあったのに、自分自身の心の問題で夢を追わなくなっていると気づいたんです。

「何かを理由にして」のところに「僕のなかの」を足しましょう。

the dreams が叶うその日まで」…
When we talk about “the dream”, it implies “a dream you had at night.”
So, I’ll change it to “my dreams”.
ここで「the dream」とすると寝てるときに見る夢のニュアンスです。「my dreams」にしましょう。

いつも文脈で判断していました(´；ω；`)日本語でも2義あるもんね。
“Not attending classes, I was out riding my bike for fun.

「授業にも行かず、バイクで遊びに行く毎日だった
その頃、君に恋をした
あれは遠い夏の日」…
Is this a specific day? I would change this to…

That was showing he often did that, while he was doing that, he fell in love with her.
「その頃？」恋をしたのは特定の日かしら？ちょっと変えましょう…
「そうして君に恋をした」
僕はよくこういうことをした、してたときに彼女に恋をした、という感じが出ます。

That’s very strange.
「『自分の実力を試すのがこわいだけでしょう』
君は僕の胸で泣きながら叱った
その気持ちを忘れないよ」…
ここはめっちゃ変ですよ。
It implies she was the one crying. Is that correct?
彼女が泣いてるってこと？

Because “scolding” in English is much more of like, you know, ”Hey, hey, hey! Do your homework!” Like that type of emotion.
その涙は「挫折」感のようなもの？
英語では「叱る」は「こらこらこら！ちゃんと宿題せんかい！」と怒って窘める感情です。

今夜のラストナンバーは、そうした山根サンの気持ちが込められた新曲「WALK WITH YOU」。

“Run to Run”ツアーのライブで、アンコール最後に歌われた曲。最初は『ライブの最後に新曲を歌って終わらせるのはどうなのかなぁー？』って思ってたけど、せっかく出来たことだし、ちょっと歌ってみようかなと。

未来へ向けたメッセージソングです。
夢を失いかけたとき、君が支えてくれたこと…
そして君と共に歩いて行けること…。
私自身ずっと山根さんの楽曲に支えられてきました。
13歳で夢をもらい、支えてもらい、
楽曲と共に大人になり将来へ向けて歩みました。
社会に出て夢を諦め、楽曲から離れてしまったけれど、
おばさんになった今また再び出会えました。
授業を抜け出さずに
真面目にしていたあの頃
これらの楽曲に恋をした
遠い学生の日々
また再びこれらの楽曲と共に歩いています。
素敵な楽曲に再会できて本当に良かったです。
