Weekend translation

teacher
teacher

Well,
“The wind is whistling in the distant sky
Low clouds are drifting across the sky
You and I used to walk along this path to the sea
“…
…Umm

me
me

Today they are walking again on the road they used to walk together when they were college students.

teacher
teacher

Yeah, yeah, let’s try to make it a little more lyrical.

“The wind whistles far beyond me
Low clouds drift across the horizon”
something like that.

teacher
teacher

You tilted your face slightly and smiled

I think I caught a glimpse of something in your face…

me
me

He thought he saw a shadow on her face. Because the good times at school have changed and now the two of them have more problems to worry about.

teacher
teacher

I would have assumed that “glimpse” would be a positive thing because she is smiling. So, you could do…
You tilted your face but your smile didn’t last.”
We could do something like that to emphasize that it is probably going to be a negative thing.

me
me

In fact, she was forcing herself to smile, trying to hold back her sorrow.

teacher
teacher

Okay, so you could also do something like…
You tilted your face towards me, but your smile didn’t reach your eyes
It’s not happy because a lot of times, like, if you catch a glimpse in someone’s face after they smile. You assumed that that’s a good thing.

Like northern lights dancing in the cobalt-blue night sky,

I’ll wrap you in a glossy glow, embracing your aching wings

me
me

He wants to heal her pain with his heart, which is as magnificent as the northern lights.

teacher
teacher

That’s beautiful.

teacher
teacher

I thought that cobalt blue was a much lighter blue in the night. That’s pretty close to blue. I still think cobalt blue for the most part is going to be too bright in the night sky. In the original Japanese, does it say cobalt blue specifically?

me
me

Yes, that’s what it says.

teacher
teacher

I think it’s fine if that’s what the lyrics say.

teacher
teacher

“Please tell me the reason for your tears
From now on, I won’t let you be alone again.”
…Good, good, grammatically
perfect, make it slightly poetic.
“Please share with me the reason behind the tears
I vow from now, you won’t ever be alone again”

teacher
teacher

Well…
I wish I could say something more useful

Please accept me as I am, and trust me

You mean a lot to me

me
me

He feels sorry he couldn’t come up with something more uplifting.
He knows he is not good enough, but he loves her, and he wants her to trust him.

teacher
teacher

Oh my God!

teacher
teacher

Okay, grammatically great, not very poetic. So…
“The right words to make it better won’t come despite all I try
But here I am, trust that I’m trying, trust that I’m here
You mean everything to me

teacher
teacher

Your white breath swayed in the wind.

It melted to breathe in the freezing air

me
me

The white breath she exhaled disappeared, blown by the freezing wind.

teacher
teacher

So I don’t think “melted” is quite right.
I could see it melting if she whispers to him and breathes out of his face, and his face was warm.
What came out as cold warmed upon his cheek. I could see melting work then.

teacher
teacher

“White fog slipped into the wind
Your breath drifted away in the freezing air”

me
me

Fog?!

teacher
teacher

Yeah, or “air” “words”…
I mean generally, you wouldn’t use that word, but it would be a very poetic way as the very next statement.
We do clarify that it is breath. You could do just why are you could even be extra poetic and say like white words? Because as she speaks, it comes out as white.

me
me

That’s pretty deep…

teacher
teacher

“I wish I could drift in the cobalt blue sea,

being held deeply by the waves of love

Let me drift calmly as if I were asleep

As we aim for our never-ending universe that lies ahead”

me
me

In the “Like northern lights dancing in the cobalt-blue night sky” section above, he was looking at the northern lights in the sky.
Here he is looking at the northern lights reflecting on the sea. It includes the intention to make himself as magnificent as these northern lights.

teacher
teacher

…This actually sounds like…he’s trying to commit suicide.

me
me

teacher
teacher

Because if he’s being held deeply by the waves and drifting calmly as if he were asleep, makes it sound like he is ground and died.
So, In English, it sounds like drowning, it sounds like he has died.

teacher
teacher

me
me

Yes…I translated it directly into English.
Um…he wants to wrap her up with a heart as big as the ocean.

teacher
teacher

Okay. So, I would say something like, instead.
“I wish we could float across the cobalt blue sea
Carried safely by the waves of love
Let us drift off to sleep as we drift across the sea
And aim for the unending universe ahead”

teacher
teacher

“I want to be the northern lights that grace the cobalt blue night sky.
For I can light you up and protect you.
No more tears for you
.”

teacher
teacher

“I want to be the northern lights that grace the cobalt sky
For I can light you up, guide you, and protect you
No more tears need fall”

NORTHERN LIGHTS
The wind whistles far beyond me
Low clouds drift across the horizon
You and I used to walk along this path to the sea

You tilted your face towards me
But your smile didn’t reach your eyes

Like northern lights dancing in the cobalt-blue night sky,
I’ll wrap you in a glossy glow, embracing your aching wings.

Please share with me the reason behind the tears
I vow from now, you won’t ever be alone again

The right words to make it better won’t come despite all I try
But here I am, trust that I’m trying, trust that I’m here
You mean everything to me

White fog slipped into the wind
Your breath drifted away in the freezing air

I wish we could float across the cobalt blue sea
Carried safely by the waves of love

I want to be the northern lights that grace the cobalt sky.
For I can light you up, guide you, and protect you.

「ROCK’N ROLL NIGHT」
「LOVE GUN」

「GRAND DAYS」
「TODAY」
