注：歌詞の背景、状況説明は私の勝手な個人的日本語解釈で進めています。バイリンガル講師がなかなか見つからず、講師が日本語が分からないためにどうしても説明が多分に必要だからです。
※ちなみにCAMBLYというオンライン英会話を利用。

今日の先生はまたイギリス人のN先生。 よろしくお願いします～。
First, I’m gonna explain the background of the story. He is a really supportive type, who will embrace one warmly with kindness and thoughtfulness.
物語の背景ですが…とても包容力のある男性です。優しさと思いやりを持って温かく包容してくれるような人です。
He wants his beloved girlfriend to be smiling anytime.
He thinks that smiling is best suited for her. He told her “Don’t ever need teardrops.”
彼は、大好きな彼女にいつも笑っていてほしいと思っています。君は笑顔が似合うよ、泣かないでよ、という気持ちを綴っています。
He encourages her. “Rainy days never stays. If it doesn’t stop raining, we’ll go far beyond the rainclouds together.”
「雨の日は続かないよ。もし雨がやまないなら、一緒に雲の向こうへ行こう。」と彼は彼女を励まします。
He thought that if he had a pair of wings, he’d pick her up and fly far away together. Even if they are far apart, he flyes to her.

※イギリスでは小雨ばかりで、ザーッという大雨は滅多に降りません。私は英国滞在中、傘を使いませんでした。ウィンドブレイカーで十分。

What’s the difference between using would or will?
仮定の話で「would」と「will」どう使い分ければいいですか？
「I’LL BE THERE」動画内にチラッと英訳が入ります。ここでも ” I would become a pair of wings.”となっていたので。

You could use “would”, but the difference is…that “will” mean something will happen definitely while “would” is related to the probability of something happening……So it can happen, but maybe it doesn’t. The same with kind of “could”. There we are talking about a possibility, you know, so it can happen but doesn’t have to happen. So If you wanted to use “would” it would be better, if we swap the sentence a little bit of the phrases so that you can say. “I would become a pair of wings. If you want it.” or “if you wish it.” but because we have started with the condition first…so “if you want I will do that.” rather than “if you want, I would do that. Because it’s like the “would” is already conditional in the way because you’re already saying “if you want me to do that then I will do it”, but if we swap the sentence, we could say “I would do that if you want me to do it.” Do you know what I mean? If you want, I will become so because he’s saying if you want me to do that. I will do it for you for sure.
ここで「would」は使えるよ。違いは…「will」は必ず起こることを表すのに使うけど、 「would」はおそらく起こることに使うの…だから「するよ、でもできないかも」という感じ。「could」にも同じことが言える。可能性を表すの。「起こりうるけど起こらなくても不思議ではない」という。
前後の文を入れ替えたら「would」は使える。「翼にもなるよ、君のためなら」と、仮定法が先に来たらね。「君が望むなら僕はそうする。」は「君が望むなら僕はそうできるだろう。」より良いよね。確実なことを言うのなら、仮定法の「would」ではなく「will」でいいです。
そうか、羽になることは実際にはできないから「願望」を表す「仮定法過去」のだと思ってwouldにしちゃった…。だけど、そうすると「ならない可能性もある（羽になれないかも）」というニュアンスも発生するから、「直接法」のwillでいいんだね。
Next…”We all get over the sadness, then grow up little by little.”
Maybe we can say…maybe it sounds a little bit formal for the lyrics…you can say “and as a result little by little.” I assume that we grow up because we get over the sadness or after getting over the sadness.
次…「人は皆悲しみを乗り越え、またひとつ大人へと近づいていく」ここでは、フォーマルな言い方になるかもしれないけど「そしてその結果」と入れたほうがいいかも。大人になるのは、悲しみを乗り越えるとき、または乗り越え終わった後だと思うから。

Ok, here similar to before actually. “if you call me” is better, yeah, because we’re talking about the future. Sometimes we can use “if you called me,” but here it is a little bit awkward.

OK、さっきと一緒ね。現在形がベター。未来のことを言っているからね。仮定法過去はこういうとき時々使えるのだけど、ちょっと不自然かな。

ただ…現実に起こりうることのない「羽にもなる」という表現、強い意思であれば仮定法過去の「would」ではなく「will」でいいのか？

あの…例えの話なんですが…「君のためなら○○にもなる」って言う場合は、仮定法過去ではなくて「will」でもいいんでしょうか？羽になるなんて現実には起こり得ないことなんですが…
いいですよ。「I will be your eyes.」（僕は君の目の代わりになる）とか普通に言いますからね。そのイギリス人の先生は日本語は分かりますか？
いいえ、彼女は日本語は全く分かりません。まず私が物語の背景を説明して、センテンスを修正してもらいました。
そうか…このbecomeはbeのほうがいいですね。ここでbecomeを使うと「物理的に○○になる」っていうニュアンスになるので。それよりはbeを使うと「羽の代わりになる」っていうニュアンスが出ます。beを使うとそんな雰囲気になります。イギリスではbeどうや？って話を今度してみてください。前後の流れがあるならアメリカでは「be the wings」でOKです。
2番の「君が呼ぶなら」も…直訳じゃない方が伝わります。
こうしたほうがいいかな。「If you miss me, （君が寂しいなら）」とか。どうしても直訳というか、日本語に忠実に訳すと、日本語の意味合いや温度が変わってしまうので、表現は思い切って変えたほうが伝わると思います。
「If you miss me, I’ll be the wind that crosses the ocean. （君が寂しいなら海を渡る風にもなる）」とか。
「I’ll be the wind that travels across the world.（世界を渡る風にもなる） 」とか。
ちょっと長いけど、「If you miss me, I’ll come see you like the wind that crosses the ocean.（君が寂しいなら、海を渡る風のように君に会いに行くよ。） 」とするのが、日本語のニュアンスに一番近いかなと思います。
プロの翻訳家来たー！「日本語の温度を変えず」！！(ﾟдﾟ)！
難しいですよね、翻訳って、翻訳者自身の個性も出るし。
それと、イギリスの方は表現が硬いですからね、私もイギリス人のスタッフと揉めること多いです。「君たちアメリカ英語はフランクすぎる！」ってね。ちょうどいいのはカナダ英語かな。
あー、N先生「very very subtle difference（とてもとても僅差）」って言ってたな…そういえばアメリカ人はveryあんまり使わないって聞いたことある…。
日常生活で「very good（とても良いね）」なんて言わないでしょ！「really good（めっちゃ良いね）」を使うよ
って誰か言ってたな。
